2025 saw the launch of the Central Development Leagues for U13 and U15 boys as well as U13 and U14 girls. These were launched to replace the Central Federation Talent Centre programme which had previously seen the most talented local players representing the region after a trial process.
Our Palmerston North United CDL squads were selected from players registered for the Academy during term 1. Players who did not make those squads were still able to take part in the Academy training programme throughout the year and also be involved with various game days and tournaments through the season. Players not involved in the CDL squads played their team/club football at the local schools/clubs they are affiliated with as usual.
We worked closely with the local schools to ensure players could still represent their school teams when possible.
Our teams had a very successful first season, winning the U13 and U15 boys competitions and U14 girls competition. Congratulations to the players and coaches.

There is now an excellent place for young footballers to play with like-minded players in the Manawatu.
The Palmerston North United Academy was founded in 2022 for super-keen junior footballers in the Manawatu, following the partnership between Red Sox Manawatu Sports Club and Massey University Football Club. It has allowed us to utilise the facilities at the Massey University Sport and Event Centre for those attending the academy.
We will continue to run Red Sox JFC as usual for the winter season and for most children this will be enough.
The academy is an opportunity for those players who already feel pretty serious about playing football to play with like-minded players. Players are welcome to train at the Academy from any clubs. Players are encouraged to remain with their original clubs, unless they wish to take the opportunity to play for one of our Central Development League teams.
We will have extra expectations on the players regarding attitude and attendance and there are additional costs involved. The experience is only for those who have a huge passion for football and a desire to improve and learn more about the game, in a more professional but still fun environment.

Due to large numbers we can only accept up to a certain number in each age group and some players may unfortunately miss out on a place.
We encourage any players with a great attitude, who are in love with the game and keen to improve their football skills and understanding to join.
